error messages but good operation with USB memory card reader

I have a SIIG USB compact flash card reader which is recognized as a USB mass
storage device and attached as a SCSI-emulated drive by kernel 2.6.3. When I
insert a Kensington 1GB card that was formatted in a Canon Digital Rebel camera
and mount it as a VFAT filesystem, the kernel generates these messages:

SCSI device sda: 2002897 512-byte hdwr sectors (1025 MB)
sda: assuming Write Enabled
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
SCSI device sda: 2002897 512-byte hdwr sectors (1025 MB)

 /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0:SCSI error : <2 0 0 0> return code =
0x8000002
Current sda: sense key Hardware Error
Additional sense: Data phase error
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 2002896
Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 2002896

When I read files from the card, I get no further errors and the files are all
good. But if it was a hard drive, I would be worried about the error messages.
Do I have anything to worry about, or is this normal behavior (I'm thinking,
perhaps related to it *not* being a hard drive)? I haven't tried writing to the
card from Linux, and I haven't tried filling the card (the error messages seem
to be indicating the last "sector").
