Over the weekend I installed Mandrake 9.2 (I had some disks lying
around) clean onto a Tosh Tecra 8100 laptop. All seemed fine (didn't
try the modem or sounds, but don't need those anyway) and I accepted
all default options for configuring X etc
I d'loaded the isos for 10.0 (checked the MDEs), and thought I'd see
how that installed, as I was impressed with 9.2.
Again, I chose the default options, but X / display is screwey. At
first the cursor was all "blobby", solved that by changing (through one
of the ...drake wizards) the display setting from Savage to Savage (..,
s/w cursor), but one problem still persists - the screen flickers a
lot. This only happens under 10.0 - I've since reinstalled 9.2 clean,
and again have no problems.
Any pointers about what i could take copies of from the 9.2
installation that would help to ensure that the 10.0 installation has
the same "correct" display settings for the monitor / gfx card?
I have googled for this, and given the age of the laptop there are no
others with good recent experience.
I am capable of using editors to edit files (e.g. read that changing
vga=788 in /etc/lilo.conf might help), so I am not a complete novice,
but have never recompiled a kernel, if you get my drift!!
Cheers!
Matt
