I've been troubled by cdrecord after a dist-upgrade, and now I'm hoping
someone can help :-)
I thought that ide-scsi no longer should be used with 2.6 kernel (I'm
running 2.6.8-1-386 on Debian Sarge. If I do not modprobe ide-scsi cdrecord
aborts with error. I'm running this from the root account.
(don,t ask why I want to burn NT4 server, it's a 120 day version used for
educational purpouses). Earlier I entered the command: cdrecord
dev=ATA:0,2,0, but this no longer works. I've tried cdrecord dev=/dev/hdb,
no luck. The error says "could not open /dev/pg0, no such device (it is not
in dev), could not open SCSI driver.
If I run modprobe ide-scsi, and then try cdrecord again I get this output:
3etage:/home/hpoppe/IsoImages# modprobe ide-scsi
3etage:/home/hpoppe/IsoImages# cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -v -eject NT4svr.iso
cdrecord: No write mode specified.
cdrecord: Asuming -tao mode.
cdrecord: Future versions of cdrecord may have different drive dependent
defaults.
cdrecord: Continuing in 5 seconds...

This looks good, but the recordable CD is blank. No data on it. The red
light on the CD-burner blinks and I've tried it in another (Windows)
machine and the device works. It also worked on the Linuxmachine earlier.
I did at one time edit the /boot/grub/menu.list so that default boot option
now is:
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.8-1-386
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.8-1-386 root=/dev/hda3 ro hdb=ide-scsi
max_scsi_luns=1
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.8-1-386
savedefault
boot
Should I take away the hdb=ide-scsi max_scsi_luns=1 part of the kernel
options? Earlier cdrecord didn't work witout these parameters.
I'm sure there is some GUI application that would do this, but I'm a CLI
enthusiast, and I want it to work just for the fun and challenge :-D
Any input would be appreciated.
