Is it correctly installed? The ND-1300A is a IDE device which should be
found by any Linux distribution.

Check the following:

1) Is your BIOS able to see the DVDR? Usually the BIOS prints out some
information about connected disks and memory before boot. Sometimes you
will have to go into the CMOS setup to see this information.

2) Is the DVDR connected with the ATA cable to your motherboard?

3) Is there a power cable connected to the DVDR?

How did you boot the Mandrake installation? If you did boot from a CDROM
all of the above should be correct. Then only one question remains:

4) Is your DVDR jumpered as master or slave? If the DVDR is the only
device on its ATA cable it should be jumpered as master. If it shares the
cable with another device like HD it could be jumpered as master if the
other device is jumpered as slave. However, most likely the HD is then
supposed to be master and the DVDR should be jumpered as slave. Some HDs
have different jumper configurations for being master or single disk.

If all of the above seems right my guess is that your Mandrake
installation media is broken. You could then try another distribution
instead.
