I would like to run Linux in an old PC for one single purpose:
- Use a reasonably good GUI web browser to browse internet
I am wondering which version of Linux is best for this purpose and is
able to work within the following limitations:
- An old Pentium Classic 200MHz PC.
- 64MB RAM (already maxed out, cannot add more)
- 3dfx 3D card that works really well
- Will install it in a 2GB partition (FAT partition)
- The PC cannot boot from a CD-ROM drive.
- I need the PC to dual boot between Win95 and Linux
with Win95 in the first partition (C: drive).
- Optional: I prefer being able to retrieve files
between Win95 and Linux.
Is there a specific Linux distribution that works well for this purpose
and within the limitations stated above? If there is not a ready-to-go
distribution for this, I would like to know if there is a close-enough
version and the technique that I can use to customize it.
I know there are some special distributions that come in a bootable
CD-ROM and are designed for old hardware. But my PC cannot boot up from
a CD-ROM drive and must be installed into a hard disk. If I need to
install it into a hard disk, I don't know whether they include program
for dual-boot.
Thanks in advance for any info.
