Hi!
I've got an LG GSA-4163B DVD-RAM drive for backups. Therefore I put an
ext2 filesystem on it and then use rsync to copy over the files.
mke2fs works ok, then mounting the DVD-RAM too. rsync also copies
everything without problems. But after unmounting the DVD-RAM the problems
start.
When mounting the DVD-RAM again, I get IO errors and "dmesg" reports:
hdc: media error (bad sector): status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: media error (bad sector): error=0x34
ide: failed opcode was 100
end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 0
This happend with two DVD-RAM media. Both are Panasonic DVD-RAMs with 3x
speed. When trying to read the media with another DVD-RAM drive (LG
GSA-4160B) one works properly but the other one also generates the above
mentioned errors.
Even trying
dd if=/dev/dvdram of=/tmp/dvdram-test.bin bs=1024 count=16
leads to the error messages. So it is not a filesystem problem but much
more low-level (as the kernel messages suggest).
I also tried to burn a DVD+RW in the GSA-4163B which worked perfectly
(using growisofs). Doing a "diff --recursive" over the full DVD+RW
(~3.6GB) revealed no errors, so reading DVD+RW is no problem. Reading
CD-ROMs is also no problem.
Do you have any experience where this comes from and what I can do to use
drive?
Thanks
Hansi
