I wouldn't say that without first comparing two different cards side by
side with identical monitors. However, I would guess that the 2D image
quality does not differ much between an X300 and an X800 of the same
brand. I would also guess that there is no big difference between
different brands as most vendors use the ATI reference design. But these
are only guesses. My own experiences are that both Matrox and ATI cards
has image quality that is good enough for me.

The big difference is on 3D performance. Maybe it would be possible to
also find a difference in some 2D benchmark, but any card has 2D
performance that is fast enough today.

Comparing a Matrox G400 with an ATI X300SE and an ATI X300 on the above
page you will see that the X300SE outperforms the G400 with cards like
Radeon 9000, Kyro II, Geforce 2 MX and even integrated intel i845 between
them. The X300 outperforms the X300SE not that much, with cards like
Radeon 8500LE, Geforce FX 5600 and Xabre 600 between them.

Maybe I was'nt clear in my previous post. It is easier to find an X300SE
without a fan than an X300 without a fan. However, it is also possible to
get a fanless X300.
