    Hi all,

I'm using a SuSE Linux/Windows 98 dual boot configuration on my home
PC. Up until now everything had been working fine. However, after
updating my Linux installation to the new SuSE 9.3 (with the new 2.6
kernel), my system keeps writing a message like "linux hal.hotplug
[xxxxxx]: DEVPATH is not set" every few seconds to the system log
(where xxxxx apparently is some form of counter). This is probably due
to the fact that I have an external hard drive connected to my PC via
USB. This configuraton used to work in SuSE 9.2.

I have a feeling that this is the root cause for another problem with
my sound card configuration (a Soundblaster Audigy Player configured as
SB0090). At first, it appeared to be working fine. However, after using
it several times now to play some mp3s I found that in (what appears to
be) random time intervals my system issues an annoying beep tone which
lasts anywhere from a short moment to several minutes. During that time
    my system freezes completely.

Anyway, not sure if it's related but I'd like to know if the DEVPATH
message can be fixed somewhere. BTW, this is the contents of my ftab
    file:

    linux:/etc # cat fstab
    /dev/hda3 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr
       1 1
    /dev/hda1 /windows/C vfat
    users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0
    /dev/sda1 /windows/D vfat
    users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0
    /dev/hda2 swap swap pri=42
       0 0
    devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5
       0 0
    proc /proc proc defaults
       0 0
    usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto
       0 0
    sysfs /sys sysfs noauto
       0 0
    /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs
    noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
    /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs
    noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
    /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs
    noauto,fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0

Any ideas/suggestions what I could try?

    Thanks in advance,

    Stevie
