Here's what works and what doesn't with Fedora Core 4:
WHAT WORKS:
* DVD and hard drive
* Installation of FC4 didn't work (crash at boot on the DVD), but FC4
beta 2 accepted to be installed. It still worked after an upgrade to
FC4. Weird.
* The ATI Radeon X700 video board worked with the ATI proprietary driver
(>= 8.16.20). The one from ATI didn't work (probably not compatible
with the recent kernel we used), but the one from Livna worked.
* Sound works with 1.0.9b Alsa and options snd-hda-intel model=z71v
position_fix=1 (perhaps also without the option). All channels seem mute
with preceding versions of Alsa.
* gigabit Ethernet works
* WiFi works with the ipw2200 driver, provided one installs the
proprietary firmware (ipw2200-firmware from livna)
* IRDA works (irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s)
* USB works (UHCI)
NOT TESTED:
* haven't tested FireWire but it apparently works (loaded driver)
* haven't tried USB2
* haven't tried burning CD/DVDs
WHAT DOES NOT WORK:
* The touchpad works in PS/2 mode but not with the Synaptics driver.
Scrolling doesn't work.
* The internal modem doesn't work. It's apparently some kind of
Conexant? (under Windows it says CXT) but is not supported by Linuxant.
I don't even know how to list its characteristics.
* The webcam does not work. It's a USB2 camera, an ALI M5603c chipset
(0402:5602). Luca Risolia apparently has begun writing a driver.
* 01:01.2 Class 0805: Ricoh Co Ltd SD Card reader (rev 17): ??? (1180:0822)
* 01:01.3 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host
Adapter: ??? (1180:0592)
Does anyone know more about these?
Regards,
D. M.
