compile workstation

OK, I just got the goahead to order a new workstation.

This one will be used for medium and large compiles for a 2d graphics
application.

My gut feeling right now is

dualhead Matrox G550
Athlon SMP
SCSI software RAID-1 (I don't need much local storage; 36 GB should be
enough)
2 GB RAM

I would like some suggestions as to stable platforms for cross-compiling
and development. A really good motherboard and good SMP support are
important....

As fast as I can get for about $2K US....

Comments? Suggestions? I need to place the order tomorrow....
