what if I double the ram 1 to 2 g

athlon 1400 RH9
I wonder, in relation with the use of vmware, will the performance
increase much if I double the ram from 1 to 2 g?
An also, I have only two slots for ram and the busspeed is 266
my m/b is supposed to use pc2100 266 ddr. Can I put in newer PC2700 of
higher 333 etc.
