After having got the ethernet card working in this portable, I
connected a powered USB hub, and through that a 2.1/2" hard drive in an
external box (the USB connecter on the computer couldn't supply enough
power for the disc).
I had been ripping some of my CDs and storing the OGG files on the
external disc for a couple of days. One day, I came to switch on the
computer, and nothing happened. :-O
The "power", "on" and "battery" LEDs are all lit up normally, but I
don't see the "In Touch with Tomorrow TOSHIBA" message that the
handbook says I should see for a few seconds..
I've tried Fn5 to make sure I've not switched the display to
"external", and this changes nothing.
The LED above the keyboard to show that function keys are active lights
up as it should when I press the special key, but the caps-lock key
does nothing.
I can't hear the hard drive spin up. I tried booting a floppy, but
nothing happens.
I've disconnected the USB devices, the PS/2 mouse and taken out the
ethernet card, and that changes nothing.
I've taken out the battery to run directly off the AC adapter, and this
changes nothing.
The toshiba website shows that my computer is out of guarantee since
2002, but other than downloading the handbook (which I did last month
anyway) I can find no other info on this model and on diagnosing
problems.
Is this computer dead?
Keith.
