I actually found some Sempron vs Celeron benchmarks (I think it was at
AMDs site. But I can't find a comparison of either one against a real
    honest-to-god Pentium 4.

One of the kickers is the MSN web site - that's our main e-mail right now.
It has a bunch of busy *** that sometimes occupies mozilla or firefox
nearly full time. Konqueror does not seem to have as much problem. At any
rate, it's time for an upgrade, after about five years.

Right now on my 2.4 ghz P4 desktop, I have Ubuntu (updated to kubuntu
desktop) for my main distro. I also have Elive installed and Mandrivel
2005. (k)ubuntu is my choice right now, and that's what will probably go
on new machine(s). I also do the internet computers at the local library
and will probably shift from MDK 10.1 to Ubuntu this fall. I run an
optimized Gentoo (stage one) on my mini-itx just because it is so damned
    fast.
