What motherboards are a good match for Linux and an Opteron 175? This is
for a 'thin' cluster computing node.
Ideally I'd like:
- one or two onboard copper gigE ports
- *basic* onbaord graphics (nothing fancy needed).
- support for 4 GB of ECC non-registered RAM
- available 'remote managemnent' (IMPI 2.0 prefered) option
- two or four port SATA controller onboard
- lots of motherboard headers for controlling internal fans
which monitor the fan speed.
- I have no preference regarding PCI, PCI-X or PCI-express slots
I have a preference for AMD chipsets because the docs are open, rather
than nVidia. But anything is OK provided it has reasonable 2.6 kernel
support.
One option is the Tyan Tomcat 2865, used in the Sun x2100. What else
would be a good match?
[One further question, can one use *any* Socket 939 motherboard, or does
it need to have some 'special' Opteron support?]
Cheers,
Bruce
