Mandriva 2006- Can't get USB scanner to work

Hi,
I've an HP 4400C scanner connected (via USB) to my Manriva 2006_64 (fully
updated) PC. The scanner is recognized by the system- see following output
of "lsusb":
[root@Atlantis proc]# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:0705 Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4400c
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 045e:0083 Microsoft Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Naturally, MCC also recognises the scanner.
However, whenever I run Kooka, I get a message saying SANE didn't find any
scanner connected.
How can I use my scanner in Mandriva 2006?
