What you want is an Athlon64 motherboard. The 939 pin Opteron is really
just an Athlon64. The only difference is that all of the Opterons have 1M
caches, the Athlon64s have either 1/2M or 1M caches depending on the part
number. Any Nforce 4 motherboard is fine. They are all pretty similar. I'm
using an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum with an A64 X2 4400+ dual core CPU and 4G
of DDR. The 4400+ has 1M caches so it's identical to the same clock speed
Opteron.
If you want more than two cores or if you need more than 4G of RAM then
you need a 940 pin Opteron. The 940 pin Opterons use registered DIMMs
which are more expensive but have the advantage of allowing you to put 8G
on each CPU chip. The 2xx Opterons allow you to have two processor chips
on the same board which gives you 4 cores. The 8xx Opterons allow you to
have upto 8 processor chips on a board, i.e. 16 cores.
