Unable to print Chinese characters

Hi: using CUPS server with a HP LaserJet1320 using a foomatic+hlpjis
driver. Printer works fine normally except when attempting to print
Chinese characters: they all show up as rectangular boxes.

Any ideas where to being fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.
