Yes, thats right.

Then programs compiled on 64 bit Linux will not work on 32 bit Linux and
programs compiled on 32 bit Linux will likely, but not for sure, work on
64 bit Linux.
If compability is important you should probably stick to 32 bit Linux on
both machines. If the 64 bit machine has a lot of RAM you might not be
able to address all RAM with 32 bit Linux.
