Socket 754 question.

I know that this is a google question, but my excuse is that I am stuck at
home with the flu and on the wrong end of a 14.4 dialup phone line. Tough
to surf with 5 and 10 minute load times and a search argument that is a
number with 10 zillion hits.
I have found a good deal on a Shuttle that the reviews say is friendly to
Linux. The motherboard is a Via K8M800 type. It has a 754 socket which
matches an AMD/64 processor that I have available but the ad says it is
for a Sempron. From the hits that I have been able to finally get to, it
appears that a 754 motherboard probably takes either type.
Can anyone verify that?
Thanks all
Bill
