I did a google search and got either old info or too much to digest.
Can anyone suggest a brand of notebook for running linux?
I'm planning on buying a shiny new Acer Aspire 1640-series system
later this week; I can try to remember to poke my head back in with
some information about how nicely it plays with Linux.
That would be very good if you could...
Anything with the Intel Centrino brand on it will have the Intel
wireless and video adapters, which some poking around with Google
suggests are fairly well supported, and I've also not seen any reports
of IBM laptops not being useful (though I haven't looked very hard,
since there don't seem to be many places around here I can buy them),
so looking for something that says either "Centrino" or "IBM" is
probably a good place to start.
FYI IBM don't make laptops anymore, they sold the brand to their chinese
manufacturer Lenovo. I haven't seen any reports saying this has changed
the quality of the product.
TO the OP. I would suggest you also have a look here:
http://www.linux-laptop.net/
Although it doesn't give you an idea of which are the best models for
linux you can pick a model from IBM/Lenovo or Acer and see if anyone
else has had success with it.
