Rebuilding RAID-1 on SLES8 with Adaptec 2400A

Hello,
I'm running an Adaptec 2400A RAID-Controller on a Suse Linux Enterprise
Server 8 with SP1.
The RAID is build up as RAID-1 system with two MAXTOR 160GB and two
MAXTOR 80 GB harddisks.
Now one of the MAXTOR 160GB harddisks crashs. I've changed the dead
harddisk with a new MAXTOR harddisk of the same typ and size.
If I now reboot the system and initialize a rebuild of the RAID (using
Adaptec Storage Manager on Rom), the linux system starts up, but hangs
with following message...
EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
EXT3-fs: write access will be enabled during recovery.
(same message as it crashes). If I reboot again the Adaptec Storage
Manager on Rom displays the changed new disk as 'degraded' and the
complement harddisk as 'Optimal'. Why does the rebuild doesn't work?
??? What's wrong here???? Did I miss something while rebuilding the
RAID-System?
How long will it take to rebuild a 160 GB hard disk? Am I too impatient
during system restart and recovery :-)?
Any hints are welcome.
Regards
Andy
