CentOS4
no error message it just hangs when it gets to the part where it
should boot up.
Do you mean after the POST?
when I put a cdrom in there it comes up

and everything proceeds as normal.
What do you mean by normal? AFAIK CentOS isn't a LiveCD so by runningUse CentOS CD and run rescue
off the CD you should get into a rescue mode or installation mode.
Which is it?
In the rescue mode can you mount your HD partitions and are theYes in rescue mode I can mount my HD
partitions as you'd expect?
and chroot /mnt/sysimage and I see the file structure I would expect.
