would waering something like contact lenses not be a cheaper and healthier solution? I mean healthy for your back & spine etc. they are technological very advanced now.
I find them too much trouble and those I have tried never seem to give perfect results in the 2-3 feet range. And with my back straight.. the laptop's screen tilted back some 20 degrees from the vertical position.. my hands on the keyboard's home row I feel comfortable - both the vision and the posture aspects.

hmm.. what bothers me is that reading about them is one thing and wearing them another.. I have a feeling you would need to try different options over a period of months to figure out which is best.. and even then.. and after you have adapted to them - meaning probably a change of posture and possibly other things that I do now at the computer because I have lived for so long with near-sightedness.. well the end-result might all in all not be better than my current experience.. So we're really looking at a major project here.. Obviously one would think of trusting the advice of one's eye doctor.. But then he's not the one wearing the lenses is he?
with them plus a cheaper monitor you could even save money...
I tend to think that one should buy the best keyboard and monitor one can afford because they are the two things - I avoid mice as much as I can - that determine the quality of your computing experience. Other aspects such as not quite enough memory.. slow drive.. slow cpu.. slow network connection.. etc. can be worked around.. a low-quality monitor or keyboard cannot.
