Scanning slides with xsane

I have an Epson Perfection 2400 photo scanner which works fine with
xsane and Gimp under FC4. One thing I have yet to figure out, however,
is how to scan slides with it; for some reason I can't get the lamp in
the lid to activate, and hence I end up with a nice scan of the plastic
slide holder. Anyone know how to configure the light source in xsane?
