Dell Dimension XPS T500 not loading Linux nor Unix. Why?

I got an older Dell Dimension XPS T500. It's a PIII 550 MHz and about
500MB of RAM. My problem is that it will not load ANY Linux or Solaris
kernels. I have tried Knopix, Debian, RH, Solaris and in each case what
happens is the boot menu loads up but after selecting the kernel the
kernel starts loading and then just stops. It does not even get to the
screen. The last thing I see is "loading......" and then it just stalls!?!
There is no problem with install media, and I have tried every Linux CD I
got. Is there some kind of Linux block on this computer? It installs win
2000 and 2003 just fine.
Thank you in advance for any help,
