I've also been looking at turion-based models and HP has one (nc6125)
which looks good and acer has several models. HP seems to have a good
rep., but I'm not so clear on Acer.
I bought an HP and then realized that they used the ML-XX model turions
instead of the MT. I quickly returned it.
The problem I've noticed with AMD-based models is that they tend to
favour ATI graphics, which are more troublesome than others in 3D
acceleration, esp. on a laptop as the mobility radeon is AFAICT not
supported by the std ati driver.
I bought an MSI MS270 (a barebones variation of it) and for some reason, it
shipped with an Intel wireless card. It works very well and I don't have
any suspend/resume problems that I've had while using ndiswrapper drivers.
Plus you need to be more careful with AMD in checking what Wi-fi chipset
is used as it may not be supported in linux - with intel centrino you
know it's always supported.
Yeah, that's what I just said :)
Anyway, I don't recommend that laptop (the MSI) b/c it has the worst
keyboard ever. I think I'm getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrom from having to
bang on the keys so hard.
