FWIW, Unix LPR print protocol has worked fine for me in every Windows
client since 98SE. Most ethernet print servers implement it.
It's been a long time since I set up a Unix printing environemnt but I
expect that any modern unix print setup can talk to a LPR print server
over ethernet.
