I've used cups to get my windows and linux machines printing. It is also possible to have cups automatically install the PS drivers on the the windows client via samba. Take a look at the man page for cupsaddsmb.
I have an outstanding problem relating to documents printed from the windows machine. It appears that the postscript from windows contains something funny at the end of the file. At least on my HP PSC1315 I don't get the last few lines of print, and I need to stop and start it before I can do any more printing. I think this has something to do with the filters rather than cups so you may not have the problem.
If anyone else here has solved this I would really like to hear from them!
