What's the pixel clock for your HP monitor? I've used a very similar
setup and it will not do it. I suspect your HP can do higher pixel
clock rate than mine. I am really starting to regret getting it
because it seems so strange to make a high resolution monitor with just
a low pixel clock rate. And to top it off, Viewsonic has thus far
ignored my requests for support.

BTW, You can get the extended information from X by doing something
like this:

X -logverbose 5 :1
<then CNTL-ALT-BACKSPACE to break out and look at the log file for
display 1>
