Re: Xorg 6.7/MSI nVidia 5500/Widescreen LCD problem

The other strange issue seems to be the driver will remove *any*
modeline with a X-resolution over 1280 as being too large. I generated
all multiples from 1280 to 1680 in 16:10 format and the driver rejected
them *all*. However, I easily made 1024x640 and 800x500 (16:10 versions
of 1024x768 and 800x600) and the driver took them happily.

When a modeline is rejected the reason for that rejection is usually
mentioned in the log file from X. Did you find any log message that could
explain why 1680x1050 at 60 and 50 Hz was rejected?

If you are unable to get the binary nvidia driver to work you migh want to
try the opensource nv driver instead. The opensource driver does not
support hardware accelerated OpenGL on nVidia cards though.
