help with laptop purchase?

I am looking for a laptop.
and am leaning towards a HP or Thinkpad.
because they seem to have the lease amount of problems on.
http://tuxmobil.org/
and
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/
I found an article from 2005 saying that HP was ensuring that some laptops would at least work if you installed Ubuntu on it.
http://www.tgdaily.com/2005/05/12/hp_to_offer_customized_linux_for_notebooks_in_europe/index.html
and I even found instructions on HP's website, on how to install SUSE 9 on some of the same models.
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/linux/products/clients/HP_whitepaper_Mobiles_Linux_062205.pdf
problem is none of the models listed are what I want.
which would be (1G Ram, Core Duo, normal 1.33 ratio screen)
they are all old Pentium M's
I can't find any good reviews of the newer laptops, and when I called the sales number they were clueless about Linux hardware support. in any of the newer models.
mainly what I am worried about is some of the special laptop stuff not working like
* external projector or (fn) key(s).
* wireles.
* suspend/hibernate.
* battery monitor (power save)
and some most of the Linux preinstalled vendors, like
* http://www.linuxcertified.com/linux-laptop-lc2100.html
* http://www.emperorlinux.com
seem a little expensive.
so the question is do you know of a laptop the meets my hardware wants? can have Linux installed, ship to Canada, all at a reasonable price?
this is my first ever laptop purchase, and I really would like it to be a good one.
thanks for suggestions.
