I am considering purchasing a new laptop, preferably with an AMD64 CPU.
Anybody have any experience with the following HP/Compaq offerings?
HP Pavilion Compaq Presario
dv5000z - AMD Turion 64 v5000z - AMD Turion 64
dv2000z - AMD Turion 64 X2 (dual core) v3000z - AMD Turion 64 X2
I have an HP Special Edition L2000, which appears to no longer be available,
but the Compaq V3000z looks like it's most similar. It's running Gentoo
(just rebuilt the whole system with gcc 4.1 over the weekend), and at this
point, everything except the modem and SD-card reader works. The modem
might work with the Linuxant driver, but I have a PC Card modem for the
increasingly rare occasions when dial-up is the only game in town. Work is
under way on getting more (non-USB) SD-card readers supported, but it wasn't
working when I last checked a few weeks ago.
WiFi functionality has some limitations with the new bcm43xx driver (I can't
get it running faster than 11 Mbps and WEP won't work), but it's usable.
Everything else (video, audio, Bluetooth, etc.) works as you'd expect.
