Dear all,
My pc can work with two systems: Suse 10 and Debian sarge
(two months old). The monitor is a tft (iiyama 17") and has
been working for the last three years.
xfree86 has been configured with sax2 and
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 respectively. Since yesterday
the screen shows vertical lines after half an hour and then
"goes to sleep". Same senario 4 or 5 times consecutively.
I stopped for the night but same behaviour this morning.
I changed the screen for a hp 19" tft but the problem
remains.
I'm thus in a deep fix :-(
Any ideas, hints, links would be most welcomed !
Many thanks in advance!
Best,
Amities,
Olivier
Is that an S3 video card? Specifically I'm referring to the Trio3D line
of cards. I had that same problem after a few minutes of running X later
that 3.xx There is a problem with the S3Virge driver for that card that
causes a reset in the s3vga driver due to insufficient knowledge of the
card specs(?). I would get alternating vertical lines (grey and green I
think, but don't quote me - it's been a while) flash on the screen and
maybe go away maybe not. Irrelevent of that after at most three times of
this happening even alt-control-delete did nothing, although I didn't
really try the kernel shutdown keys - which is the only other ways short
of the power switch.
