I had a SB 16 ISA installed with FC5 and this card has always worked for me in Linux and I tried it in both ALSA and OSS drivers. Well that didn't work out so I took people advice and installed a Soundblaster Live Value PCI sound card which is prob the most common sound card from a few years back. Now this card will not work either.
Can someone please help me to learn how to troubleshoot the sound card. I never had problems until FC 5? And I am not really an advanced user.
The autodect see's it and identified it correctly but no sound.
(Note the following assumes you're using the ALSA drivers which are included with 2.6.x kernels. The free OSS drivers are considered deprecated by the kernel developers.)
What modules are loaded? If the "Value" variant is anything like other SB Live cards, you should see 'snd_emu10k1' (among others) listed in the output of 'lsmod | grep snd'.
Then use 'alsamixer' (from the command prompt) to turn up the volume on the relevant channels. Be sure to unmute them, too (with the "m" key; the sliders should *not* show "MM" at the bottom).
Once you have everything setup in alsamixer, you can use 'alsactl store' to save the settings and 'alsactl restore' to load them again.
