Printer in slackware

I realize that the subject of installing a printer was talked of many times but I have been trying to set my HP 3650 on slackware 10.1 with 2.6.16.19 kernel and I'm close to harakiri :)
I followed the instructions from linuxprinting.org for cups, I add the printer via localhost:631 (system sees it correctly), but when I try to print the test page I get the following message:
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed"
Then I installed hpijs package and compiled hplip myself. To configure the printer I'm supposed to type in 'hp-setup' command but when I do it, I get this:
[ERROR]: Unable to connect to hpiod
When I'm trying to restart rc.hplip I get:
Stopping hpiod: [ OK ]
Stopping hpssd: [ OK ]
Starting hpiod: [ OK ]
Starting hpssd [ FAILED ]
I don't know what to do now, I read that I have to install the net-snmp package, I did it, without any effect. I tried installing hplip from package (linuxpackages.net) and compiling it myself, nothing works.
Please help :)
