Re: good scan FC4

I would like to buy a good scanner working under fedora 4. I want to
scan books, pages, papers... I do not need a sophisticated scanner to
scan photos. My aim is to have a good printing of book that I cannot
put in my suitcase when I am travelling by plane... just a good
library in my computer!

If these books don't have pictures, you'd be better off using a good OCR
program (Finereader, Typereader, Omnipage...) and storing the books as
text. Images take up a lot of space, even if you scan in
black-and-white and save as Group4 TIFF.

I printed the whole Sane database but, when I go to shops selling
scanners, here in Paris, I cannot find any model completly working
under linux FC4. Any suggestions?

Practically every Epson scanner ever made works Just Fine if you
download the evil binary-only SANE backends from Epson's site on
http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/ . (I don't know if they have a
French section, sorry.) My Epson 3490 works well with those. When I
bought that scanner, SANE's Free stuff didn't support it, but I see the
sane-snapscan backend provides "good" support now. (One more thing for
me to try.) HTH, bonne chance,
