Hey all...
I was on RedHat 9, happily so. Everything worked. Dual boot into old
Win98, and everything also worked.
I upgraded to FC5. Now my CD-ROM won't play music CDs. Data CDs seem
to be fine. Doesn't matter whether they're CD-Rs or pre-recorded. If I
use cdda2wav to rip a CD, it gives me a wav file but it may either
have just noise, or a noisey version of the song. Dual boot into Win98
and I can rip CDs fine.
The settings on the CD drive seem normal (DMA is on, 32-bit I/O is
on). The device is /dev/hdc. My hard drives are on /dev/hda and
/dev/hdb. I don't have anything plugged into /dev/hdd (IDE 1, slave).
Any help/guidance appreciated.
First - get simple: unmount /cdrom; put a music CD (bought - *not* one
you make) close the tray, then type: workbone. If it still doesn't play
sound or click over, you have connection/hardware problems, otherwise
it's the settings for your cdplayer app - most probably uses ALSA and
defaults to OSS - there should be settings in it to change sound type.
IF workbone crashes, post any messages you get. Also what app you use
for cdplaying, what window manager you use.
