cannot create fb device for on-board intel 865G video

Hello. I have several hosts with on-board 865G video, all runs SuSE
10.1
The machines boot fine with hi resolution on the console, nice
background
image, everything looks like it's on fb. However /dev/fb0 is missing
I have some speical application that need to use /dev/fb0
What can I do to make /dev/fb0 appear?
I tried this:
1. in order to test if the default SuSE 10.1 kernel actually can
create /dev/fb0 device, I plugged a matrox G200 card and use
modprobe to get the cooresponding fb driver, I got /dev/fb0
repersenting G200 card, this show that this kernel can create
fb
device, only it cannot create fb device for the on-board card.
2. Then I think the kernel might not have the proper driver
compiled in. I compiled my own kernel with the same config file
from standard 10.1 kernel with only one tweak: I compiled
"Intel
830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G support" into kernel. (VESA was
mpiled in by default). Reboot the machine (with Matrox card
removed).. Oh, no /dev/fb0
Any hints? Thank you!
