So far, the NVIDIA person in NVIDA forum didn't see anything odd in my
logs. I wonder if it is a X bug or something.
I don't think that any bug in any X library or any X application would be
able to make your machine hang so hard that not even keyboard lights
respond. However, your card driver which speaks to your hardware would be
able to crash your machine into a complete lockup.
Well, the reason why I suggested thsi is because I do download and install the newest stuff
every day via apt-get update and upgrade from testing, unstable, and stable areas.
As you are able to reproduce the error with 2D applications you should try
an opensource X.org driver and see if that helps. If X works fine with an
X.org driver you should probably not blame the bug on X.org but go back
with a more detailed bug report to nVidia.
I can try that. Dumb question: What do I change in my xorg.conf? I assume glx and nvidia. I
forget what the original settigns were. I didn't make a copy of it either.
Here's what's weird. I mentioned that GNOME does not have problems
(shows garbled texts), but KDE does. I wonder if KDE in X is doing
something to make it blow up.
Even if the bug is only shown in some applications or in some
circumstances, the important thing is that you are able to reproduce the
bug.
True.
