There is a device section where you probably have a line which looks like
this:

Driver "nvidia"

Change that line to:

Driver "nv"
Or
Driver "vesa"

If the same device section also has some settings with options you might
have to comment those out as different drivers have different options. It
might be a good idea to comment out the line that loads the glx module.
Even though it would be possible to use glx with the nv and vesa driver in
software rendering only you will probably not be able to use glx with
those drivers as the installation of a binary nvidia driver has replaced
your OpenGL libraries.
