I don't think it's off topic. I've rescued myself a couple of times - once
from a hard disk failure by copying the vital partitions, and once from a
partitioning error. If you'd like to be a little more explicit, I expect
folks here could help.

If it's a dying disk - don't mount any partition on it. Boot a Live CD
after installing a new disk, and copy out the data you need to save using
dd.
