Sorry for the delay. Yes, I want to grow the partition.
The disk doesn't have free space right now, but when I'm ready to do this
it will.
The disk is on a SAN, so I can easily create a new logical unit and
"join" the original LUN with the new LUN, therefore increasing the size of
the original disk (as the host operating system sees it).
Knowing that, any further info for me?
Cheers

one partition with 148G used and 87G available mounted on /u02. There is
no room to grow that partition. Add another HD and create it as a LVM for
/u02.

Hi all
I'm not a highly skilled linux admin, so forgive me. I'll try and
give
as much info as possible.
I have a Suse Enterprise Server 8 box. It's attached via fibre HBA to
a SAN. Kernel is 2.4.21-215-smp.
I need to resize one of the partitions to give it some more free
space.
My issue is, the partition in question, /dev/sdc1, does not appear
in
Yast2 Partitioner's list. All the others are there, and the /dev/sdc
device is there, just not the partition on it (there's only one).
So,
with it not appearing in Yast, I can't resize it.
Weird.
So, I go into "fdisk /dev/sdc" to see what that says - it shows the
following output:
------------
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 32635. There is
nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in
certain setups cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time
(e.g., old versions of LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software from
other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
Command (m for help): p
Disk /dev/sdc: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 32635 cylinders Units =
cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 32635 262140606 83 Linux -------------
So far so good? That looks ok to me.
If I go into "parted /dev/sdc" this has a different result, and I
don't
know if it's an issue or not.
Output below...
-----------------
Using /dev/sdc
No Implementation: Partition 1 isn't aligned to cylinder boundaries.
Need to add support for this.
Information: The operating system thinks the geometry on /dev/sdc is
32635/255/63. Therefore, cylinder 1024 ends at 8032.499M. (parted)
No Implementation: Partition 1 isn't aligned to cylinder boundaries.
Need to add support for this.
---------------
Is this an issue? Or is it a problem with the 'parted' utility..
The partition in question is mounted and working fine, and is 247 GB
in
size. It contains all our live Oracle data files and is quite happily
ticking along.
Output of "df -h" :
----------
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3 32G 13G 18G 43% / /dev/cciss/c0d0p1
16M 5.6M 9.1M 38% /boot /dev/sda1 33G 564M 31G 2%
/u03 /dev/sdb1 33G 664M 31G 3% /u04 /dev/sdc1
247G 148G 87G 64% /u02 ----------
So.. has anyone got any hints for me? I'm confused and not quite sure
where to go from here.
Thanks in advance,
Dave.
As root try the command line tool parted:
Machine> parted /dev/sda
you may want to read man parted and or info parted first.
