Hi, we write our own algorithms in matlab to crunch really big files (aI think the choice is between the highest-end Intel workstation chip, the C2D X6800
few gigs). This is single threaded stuff and it uses up as much ram as
we can throw at it.We generally don't use swap space much, as we use
many gigs of ram, so neither disk access or network access are issues.
We don't use the workstations for anything else, and they are generally
crunching 24/7.
Anybody know which of the current workstation CPUs out there we should
look for in buying a few new workstations? I've heard the core 2 duos,
the woodcrests, and the opteron socket f's are all new chips. Which
will serve us best?
Many thanks to you...
and the highest-end Opteron workstation chip, the 285. They are both dual core
but that won't help you in your situation.
I chose the C2D X6800 because it has really, really good single-processor performance across
the board. The newest Opterons might edge them out a bit.
