Hi all,First, a question - why do you need a DVD-RW and a CD? Why not
All my 4 IDE drive channels are in use:
- 1 DVD-RW
- 1 CD
- 1 HD for GNU/Linux (160GB)
- 1 HD for Win-dose (120GB)
Now I need to expand such a configuration with at least 2 HDs:
- 1 HD for multimedia contents: sound and video recordings (fast RW and
capable memory, say 150/200GB);
- 1 HD for GNU/Linux backup: scheduled (automatic) backup unit (160GB);
- (further possible future requirements).
As I have no field experience that could let me make the right choice
(extended IDE card + internal drives? external storage units?), I'd like
to hear your wise opinion.
Many thanks.
consolicate to one unit?
Another option would be an external USB or Firewire for the backups.As I said in another post of this thread, my requirement is to let my
system automatically execute the backup, based on a schedule: how can I
avoid to keep always power-on my external backup unit if I want to
execute the backups unattended every night?
Thank you.
That depends on how well disciplined you are.
Very disciplined; turn off when you get up and turn on when you retire.
or
make the computer do it; with power control electronics driver like X10 or
from Ethernet or USB.
I'm not-so-disciplined, so I'll opt for the automated power control. ;-)
Thank you, joseph.
