The problem with the latest/greatest nicest laptops is that many contain
hdwe and/or chipsets that are not Linux friendly (I purchased a new
HP/Compaq V3000 a couple of weeks ago and its got the dawgone Broadcom wifi
that I still cannot get working). As the vast majority of the Linux
community is "open" and volunteer, the latest drivers are not always
available in a timely fashion.
If working out of the box is what you want the I recommend two approaches:
1) for each laptop you are considering, get a full list of the internal
compents which includes manufacturer and part/model number then look on
your distro's hardware compatibility list. Also, search the available
community forums for your distro to see if anyone else is having
difficulties with those parts.

2) Visit www.system76.com or www.emperorlinux.com (there are others, indeed)
who sell fully configured lunix laptops that you should be able to use upon
receipt. Yes you do pay a little more for that convenience but you save on
medication for your headaches.
Good luck and please post what you end up with and how you make out?
