external usb disk trekstor

hi,
I bought a
TrekStor IDE-Storage 3,5" da 300 GB
Hard Disk 300 GB - 7200 rpm
USB 2.0 - Buffer:8 MB
I'm using it with ubuntu 6.06: it correctly
mounts but when I start copying data, it
seems to disappear after some minutes
The error it gives is device write timeout error,
and I cannot mount it until I shutdown and
restart again.
Any idea what's going on?
