shuttle sd37p2 eSATA driver?

I have been running the shuttle sd37p2 for 2 weeks under gentoo linux
now. I am pleased. It is quiet and stable. Fitting a fat video card
into it is however not easy. My advice would be to stick to more basic
video cards that don't have huge coolers. I have found good linux
drivers for everything---except for one item: the eSata port on it. I
presumed it is supposed plug and play, and that the internal SATA
driver would just pick up when a new drive appears on it (just like
USB). alas, this does not seem to be the case.

does anyone know what exactly drives the esata port on this thing, and
what driver I need to make it happen?

regards,
