I'm about to put together a Core2 Duo system to be used as a compute
server. I'm leaning towards an Abit AB9 Pro but I'm open to suggestions. I
don't care about graphics performance at all, the system will
running without X, but I do care about CPU, memory and disk performance.
I'm planning on an E6700 with 4G of DDR2 800 and a pair of Seagate 320G
SATA drives in a RAID 0 configuration. I'll be running 64 bit FC5 or FC6
on hte box. I have an SATA DVD ROM so I think I have a way around the
problems with the JMicron PATA controller.
The JMicron thing works with the latest kernel.
If you have a Core2 system, which motherboard are you using, have there
been any Linux compatibility problems?,
Asus P5B. The installation was a bit tricky, but with 2.6.18 everything
works perfectly. Haven't had a single software related crash.
any memory compatibility problems?
(965s are supposed to be finicky), are you happy with it?
I'm using a pair of Corsair XMS2 1 gb memory modules. One of them broke a
couple of weeks ago, but that could happen with any memory.
