Debian/Etch - AMD64 & Canon Powershot S110

I'm running Etch on an AMD64 system and can no longer connect to my Canon S110. The system detects when I plug in the camera and launches DigiKam (0.8.2), which shows the camera in the Camera menu, but complains that it cannot connect to it.

gtkam, which I had been using to connect to the camera, doesn't seem to see it, let alone allow me to download images.

I can still see the camera and download images using an XP box and the same cable I use for the Debian/Etch box.

Any hints on how I track down and fix this glitch? I don't want to revert to XP every time I take some pictures. :)
