Canon PowerShot cameras do not play well with Linux GUI apps for
downloading photos. I have a PowerShot A540, same problem. However, if you
install "gphoto2" you will have no problems detecting and downloading
photos - but it is a command line application. I simply wrote a very
simple shell script to run gphoto2, detect the camera and download
photos and then launch gqview. Works very well.
